Artist in Residence UCD College of Social Science

and Law 2015

Michael McLoughlin makes audiowork, drawings, sculptural objects, video and installations. As a result of many years of practice based investigation, research and exploration in social contexts, he realises gallery based as well as specific artwork. McLoughlin consistently explores the developmental possibilities of a contemporary art practice grounded in sound, drawing and spatial consideration. McLoughlin’s work examines the value placed on the feelings of ownership, belonging and connection experienced by both the individual and the collective.

McLoughlin’s artistic approach presents a duality in providing both an outlet for dialogue/exchange and at the same time exploring the physicality of that exchange. This duality is important, as it recognises the potential for direct relationship between contemporary art practice and active citizenship; the ways, people interact.

Michael McLoughlin has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally, with exhibitions in France, Finland, Norway, Great Britain and the US. Previous work includes: It’s nice to see our friends once in a while, The LAB 2010; Experience, Strength, Hope with residents of Ashleigh House & Brian Maguire, Draiocht 2009; I only come here cos it’s free, Limerick City Gallery of Art 2008.
