In 2015, artist Vanessa Daws was awarded the inaugural Nevill Johnson Award by UCD President Prof. Andrew J. Deeks during a reception at UCD College of Science.
The previous year, the family of Nevill Johnson kindly donated the 'Catharsis' series of paintings by the artist, to UCD. An exhibition of Johnson's work was held at Newman House on Stephen's Green. The preview of the exhibition coincided with the launch of the book 'Nevill Johnson: The Dublin Legacy' by Prof. Eoin O'Brien, UCD.
Over the next ten years, the Nevill Johnson Award will support emerging artists who are interested in developing their work through a crossover between art and science. The award offers a year long residency in the UCD Science Artists in Residence programme at Parity Studios, UCD College of Science. It is specifically aimed at emerging artists who have graduated their studies in the past two years at either BA or MA level.
